Cegelec took care of all electrical engineering and local network engineering services for the seven new central switching stations of DB Energie, a subsidiary of Deutsche Bahn, that control and supervise the overhead line systems. Extensive construction measures were used to build the 400-square-metre central switching station in Karlsruhe, which went into operation in early 2006 after 18 months of work without down time, thereby replacing 30-year old techniques. More than 6,500 kilometres of overhead lines are managed by Karlsruhe alone.
Cegelec was also involved in converting other central switching stations in Leipzig, Berlin, Lehrte, near Hanover, Cologne, Munich and Borken, which will start up in October 2008. Services include the entire cabling of telecommunications networks, lighting engineering, processing and converting analogue signals into digital, and building-related services such as steelworks, facing work and restoration.
